Come build the ledger the world keeps its money on.

Most people cannot say where last month went — not because they are careless, but because nothing they use keeps real books. We are fixing that with a double-entry engine rigorous enough to run a business, wrapped in something a person actually likes opening on a Sunday morning.

Why we are here

Anyone should be able to prove where their money went.

Not estimate. Prove — to the cent, in their own language, without hiring anyone. That is the whole mission, and it is a bigger job than it sounds.

01

The category lies by omission

Every other app in personal finance shows you an estimate and prints it in the font of a fact. Balances that are a day old. Categories assigned by a guess nobody logged. Totals that quietly disagree with the bank and hope you never check. People end up distrusting the numbers, so they stop looking, and the thing that was supposed to give them control gives them anxiety instead.

02

Accounting solved this five hundred years ago

Double-entry bookkeeping is the best idea finance ever had: every movement of money is recorded twice, from both sides, and the books must balance or something is wrong. It is how every serious institution on earth knows where it stands. It has simply never been built for a household — until now, under a surface that never makes you learn the word 'credit' to use it.

03

The engine is bigger than the app

We deliberately keep the ledger engine free of any consumer concept. No budgets, no subscriptions, no merchants — just accounts, entries and rules. That discipline costs us something every week, and it buys us the thing that makes this company worth building: the same engine that reconciles a family's checking account can run a company's books. One ledger, two markets, no rewrite.

How we work

Six things we actually mean

001

Correct beats clever

A number that is almost right is wrong. We would rather ship a week later than ship a total somebody has to double-check. The database refuses an unbalanced entry; we hold ourselves to the same standard.

002

Ship the whole thing

The loading state, the empty state, the failure, the keyboard path, the 390-pixel screen, the seventh language. A feature that only works on the happy path in English is a demo, not a release.

003

Own it end to end

You will write it, review the migration, watch it deploy, read the graph afterwards and hear from the person it confused. Nobody here hands work over a wall and stops caring.

004

Argue in writing

Strong opinions, written down where the next person can find them, and changed the moment evidence says so. Our repository is full of comments explaining why something is the way it is — that is deliberate.

005

Trust is revocable

People connect their real bank accounts to us. That permission can be withdrawn in one afternoon and no feature is worth risking it. Security is not a quarter, it is a habit.

006

Small team, large surface

There is more to do than there are people, which means range beats specialisation and initiative beats permission. If you spot the thing nobody owns, it is yours.

Our locations

Two offices, both on the water.

We are an in-person company three days a week, because the arguments that make this product good are the ones that happen standing at a whiteboard. Everything else is yours to arrange.

The package

What comes with it

Equity in every offer

No exceptions, no tiers, and a plain-English explanation of what it means. Ten-year exercise windows.

Banded, published pay

The range on each posting is the range. We do not negotiate people down for being polite about it.

Health, fully covered

Medical, dental and vision at 100% for you and 90% for your family, from day one.

Time off with a floor

Unlimited, plus a 20-day minimum we track and chase you about. A policy nobody uses is not a benefit.

16 weeks of leave

For every new parent, however you become one, with a phased return that is actually phased.

$3,000 to learn

Every year, for courses, books or a conference. We would rather you came back with something.

The desk you want

A $2,500 setup budget and whichever machine makes you fast. Commuter card and lunch in both offices.

Two offsites a year

Both cities travel; the destination rotates. The whole company, in one room, twice a year.

Premium, on us

LumaLedger Premium for you and five people you care about. Using what we build is part of the job.

How we hire

Two weeks, five steps, no mystery

You will know where you stand at every stage, and you will never wait more than two business days to hear from us. If we get that wrong, tell the recruiter — we count it as a bug.

01

Intro call

30 minutes · Recruiting

What you want from the next few years, and an honest account of what this one is. You should leave able to decide whether to keep going.

02

Craft conversation

60 minutes · Hiring manager

One real problem from our actual backlog, talked through properly. No trivia, no whiteboard algorithms you would never write here.

03

Working session

2 hours · Two of your future colleagues

Build or design something small alongside us, with your own tools. If we ask for anything longer than two hours of your own time, we pay for it.

04

Team and values

2 × 45 minutes

People from other teams, including one you would rarely work with. You will get time to interview us back, with nobody from your line in the room.

05

Decision

Within 48 hours

An offer with the reasoning, or a no with the reasoning. Everyone who reaches step two gets feedback, whichever way it goes.

The honest version

Reasons this might not be for you

Every careers page is a sales pitch. Here is the part usually left out, so you can rule us out now rather than in month three.

  • We are small. There is no layer of management to absorb ambiguity for you, and there will not be one for a while.
  • The bar on correctness is genuinely high, and review here is direct. It is about the work, but it takes some getting used to.
  • Engineers carry a pager. It is quiet, and we fix the thing that woke us before we do anything else, but it is real.
  • Three days a week in the office is not negotiable for most roles, and both offices are in expensive cities.
  • Some of what we are building has never been built for consumers, so a plan occasionally turns out to be wrong in public.

Nothing above fits? Write to us anyway.

Tell us what you would want to own and what you have built that you are proud of. We read everything, and we have created roles for people before.

We hire in San Francisco and New York, and sponsor visas for roles we cannot fill locally.
